Summer Newsletter – Alma St Fair

The Alma Street Fair is coming soon!

In fact, it’s only just over 2 weeks away, on Sunday 23 June, from 12 noon to 7 pm.

The Alma Street Fair has always been brilliant because it is a genuine community event.  It is organised and run by us as volunteers working for some months to prepare.

And we are now asking for volunteers to help on the day: to set up (from 8 am), to act as stewards and programme sellers (you get to wear a hi-vis vest !), and to clear up at the end. Last year we had 50+ volunteers and it was really enjoyable and a great way to meet neighbours.

We’re also asking for households prepared to provide electricity to a stallholder, especially if you live near the Crimea former pub (we can reimburse reasonable costs).  If you haven’t already been asked, and would like to help with any of this please let us know.

It would also be good if anyone wants to organise any children’s activities on the day – and if your child would like to help be the one to pick winners for the prize draw that would be great too.

Alma Street, Inkerman Road and the bottom of Cathcart will be closed to traffic and cleared of parked cars.  The parking suspension signs for the day should be going up this weekend, asking people to make sure their cars are moved on the 23rd by 6.30 am and not returned until after 9 pm on the 23rd.  The parking suspension also applies to Anglers Lane, but that won’t be closed for residents who need access.

We have a special request for everyone who can to please move their cars no later than the Saturday evening, the 22nd. Alma Street and Inkerman Road plus the bottom half of Cathcart will all be closed to traffic from 0630 on the Sunday with road barriers in place. It really helps the organisers and de-stresses the set up in the morning if we have no cars on site to worry about. Also, if you think there is a car that has not moved for a while, could you let us know. It is possible the owner is away and we have in the past been able to make contact for the car to be moved by a friend or family member in advance

It should be a great day.  Nearly 100 people have booked stalls (including many of us residents), there’s a great line-up for the three music stages, a new area for food and drink and a sit-down outside the Crimea. There will be beer and wine on sale to raise money to fund the fair, plus lots of food stalls, games, local history, green issues.
