- IARA Meeting with new MP Keir Starmer
We now have a date – Monday 21 September from 7 pm – when we can meet our new MP. We also hope to give you a report on the Street Fair, and Tim Gray, who is the Senior Area Monitoring Officer in Camden’s Environment and Transport department has asked to join us. More details as soon as everything is confirmed, but please note the date now.
- Major development in Raglan Street
Residents of the Raglan Estate were invited to a meeting this week to hear about proposals for providing further housing on the estate. We have written to Camden Council to ask them for their proposed timetable fora wider consultation. Plans are at a preliminary stage and we hope there will be detailed and meaningful consultation prior to the formal planning stage. Residents who live nearby have been aware of outline plans to build on the area of the garages, but these proposals go much further and raise some concerns about over-development. We will keep you posted.
- Independent Elders – meeting to discuss Becoming a Camden Guide
The Independent Elders of IARA met this week and had a very interesting presentation from Jenny Rossiter, who is a founder member of the Camden Tour Guides Association. They are running their next course from September. If you are interested in developing skills to plan, prepare and deliver walking tours – or just want to learn more about our wonderful borough – take a look at the website www.camdenguides.com. Applicationsby 31 July. (Their next local walk is this Saturday at 11 am and looks at Camden’s housing estates over the last 50 years).
If you are not on the Elders mailing list and would like to be (no age limits) please let us know. Other issues we discussed last night and are looking into include tree management in the area, coach parking near the baths and the French School, unlawful car and minicab parking, and some healthy living issues including a recommendation from one of our members for a local Tuina massage clinic www.tuinauk.com

Caroline Hill, Chair of Kentish Town Neighbourhood Forum, has alerted us to the latest planning application for this site. Some of you will know that since planning permission was granted the building has again changed hands. The new owner is going for the option so that does not include a cinema. This new application refers only to trees on the site, but the report gives detail of the original application. This application includes a basement excavation – one of a few locally. IARA has signed up to join CRAAC, the Camden Resident Association Action Committee. This is a group that is currently almost exclusively focused on trying to protect neighbours throughout the Borough of Camden against aggressive and inconsiderate basement schemes. They are not anti basements per se but want to fully protect neighbours against any damages of any kind as a result of any applications.
