The next meeting of IARA 28 September 2009

The next meeting of IARA will be on Monday 28 September, from 7 – 9
at St. Patrick’s School, Raglan Street. Meetings are for anyone living in the area, and we especially welcome new residents. It’s a chance to meet neighbours and below are some of the things we’ll be discussing. Do contact us if you want to add other issues.

Summer event – in most ways it was a resounding success, but there’s also a view that next year we want to scale it back in size and have a stronger community focus. Give us your views, either at the meeting or by contacting us separately (see above). At the meeting we hope to set up a planning group, so let us know if you want to be part of it.

Greening the area – we’d like to plan the meeting in the Spring around environmental issues, and start to think about this now. Many people in the area have already taken serious steps to green their homes with insulation, new glazing, solar panels etc. We could share ideas and information. Camden is taking steps to improve recycling which we can hear about and discuss. A new campaign (10:10) is asking us to reduce our carbon footprint by 10% by 2010. Could we do it in Inkerman Area?

In addition, Camden Council has set up a £10,000 fund for each ward to spend on environmental improvements. We’re asked to help decide how it’s spent to improve your local area.

Benches, cycle racks, new litter bins, tree planting are examples of items that could be paid for by the new budget. Join us at the meeting and let us have your own ideas.

Foxes – Are they keeping you awake at night? Spreading rubbish around your street? We suggest some advantages in everyone bagging their rubbish up carefully (preferably double wrapped and tied) and only put it out on the street just before the collection. If you have other ideas for dealing with this problem, please let us know.

Camden Community Safety Partnership would like to invite us to take part in a focus group. This will be an opportunity to give your views on crime and antisocial behaviour in the borough. There are two focus groups specifically for people involved in area forums on Thursday 1 October. We are invited to send a representative. They are at:

1.30 pm: Committee Room 3, Camden Town Hall, Judd Street, London WC1H 9JE
7.00 PM: Somers Town Community Centre, 150 Ossulton Street, London NW1 1EE

The focus groups are limited to a maximum of 14 people so please let us know ASAP if you would like to attend..
