Dear Members
As ever, there is a lot going on in the area, including at 2 Prince of Wales Road, Kentish Town Connects working towards being our local community resource. https://riverofhope.commonplace.is/en-GB/proposals/v3/kentish-town-connects?step=step1
Tomorrow:
‘Welcome in, Kentish Town’ – a day bringing people together on October 30th!

The Social Connection Action Group, part of Kentish Town Connects, are planning a fun-filled day to bring the community together and tackle social isolation. Activities include Tai Chi, massage and dance.
Their event is on Thursday October 30th (12:00 – 4:00pm) and will help people connect with neighbours, learn about local activities, and discover how to get more involved in the community. It’s happening in Civic Action Lab on 2 Prince of Wales Road NW5.
And Community Connection day – soon – November 1 and 2:

Meanwhile, we have been quite busy …
Antisocial behaviour
There are two issues locally. One is the Raglan Estate where, as part of the consultation about the plans to build housing on the garage site, residents of the estate have raised huge concerns about serious problems caused by non-residents using the estate to hang out, sell and use drugs, leave dangerous rubbish etc.
The estate has its own Tenants and Residents Association and we have offered to meet to share concerns and consider any joint action.
The second issue is that of local kids kicking doors, sometimes causing actual damage and real distress. John, our representative on the police Safer Neighbourhood Panel raised the issue again at the last panel meeting. See his report: “C:\Users\debby\Desktop\Kentish Town Safer Neighbourhood Panel Meeting 17 September 2025.docx”
Following that, a small group of us recently met Natasha Dickinson, an officer from Camden’s Community Safety Team, to discuss what is happening. She promised to follow this up and we have just this evening had this from her:
“I have spoken to the Sergeant and one of the PCSOs [Police Community Support Officers ]of the Police Safer Neighbourhood Team, about the young people identified as being involved in anti-social behaviour in your streets, the main issue being their repeated kicking of various front doors, causing damage and alarm. The Police confirm that they have contacted 3 families and discussed their children’s behaviour with them. Since this has happened the police have had no further reports of this type of behaviour, so hopefully this approach has been effective. I know you were going to check with your WhatsApp group and see if anyone has any problems recently with this group, so do please let me know the outcome.”
We haven’t heard anything further from any residents, so do get in touch if you are still having problems.

Planning and development
Most of you are aware of the many planned developments in the area. Raglan Street has the New Homes Small Sites proposal which is very near the stage of a planning application. There have been various opportunities to give feedback on the draft plans, most of which seems to have been ignored. So the planning application will be the last chance to comment.
Nearby, the Bacton development and West Kentish Town are all waiting in the wings, plus of course the major “Film Quarter” on Regis Road (see above for the latest chance to see the plans – also soon to be submitted as a planning application). And Murphy’s are talking to Camden about their new plans for the huge area north of Regis Road.
There are real concerns about the scale (and timing) of all these, which could mean Kentish Town may feel like one giant building site for many, many years.

Licensing
Super keen readers of these newsletters and the CNJ will know that there has been a long running tension between people who believe in a vibrant late night entertainment industry – profitable for some – and residents some of whom like to have a quiet time to sleep and for their families to sleep. Predictably Camden side with the former group and are giving lengthier late night licenses. Some people are pushing back and David Kaner in the centre of town has been coordinating resistance: david.kaner@outlook.com if you are interested in this issue.

AGM
Some people think an AGM for 2025 should naturally happen before the end of 2025. However Christmas is a busy time and IARA has more recently had the AGM in January to offset any winter blues.

Halloween
Some people have got decorations on their houses and probably expect visitors to come Trick or Treating.. and some people are not so keen on all that… So in IARA we have adopted what is probably the widespread tradition or convention – that only houses with visible pumpkins and/or decorations welcome visitors and will have supplies of treats – ultra healthy or ultra sugared…
