Notice of the Annual General Meeting 7.00 pm Thursday 23 January 2025

The Annual General Meeting of IARA will be on Thursday 23 January at 7 pm – upstairs at The Grafton.

The meeting is at 7.00, the room is open from 6.30.  Obviously the bar will be open downstairs before the meeting and there will be a private bar upstairs after the meeting for drinks (wine, beer, soft – one free) and small nibbles!

This is a great chance to meet people (all those new friends on the WhatsApp group that you’ve never met, or the neighbours you don’t know!).

The first part of the meeting will be a formal AGM, with reports from the Chair, the Treasurer and some of the subgroups. You can hear more about what’s happening in the neighbourhood, what the police are dealing with, what the various groups are up to such as Local History, Dog Lovers, Gardening, the Elders group, issues around greening the area and more.

There will be an election of officers – Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. If you would like to nominate anyone to any of these positions (yourself, or another person with their permission) let us know by email in advance of the meeting. (The current officers are also willing to stand again).  If you want to know more about what’s involved, get in touch – inkermanara@hotmail.com.

One item will be on the Alma Street Fair. This was a great success last year and involved a lot of members in organising it in advance and on the day and was an opportunity to get to know neighbours. The AGM will be an opportunity to tell you more about what is involved and to ask you to think about what you can contribute in 2025. We are also hoping to have some discussion about the Safer Streets traffic issues.

Party! After that there will be time to meet get to know neighbours.

Lifts for Kentish Town Thameslink station?

On another matter, we’d like to remind you about the current consultation on the Regis Road development.  There seems to be a window of opportunity to try and get step free access at Kentish Town Thameslink station.  If you go to the consultation there is a section on CIL priority – which is how Camden could spend the money that developers give when staring a large development .

We are being asked where we would like the money to be prioritised. One of the options is step free access – lifts – at the Thameslink station at KT. If lots of people say that is a priority there is a better chance it will go forward. But it needs people to actually respond. In passing, step free access at the Tube station is not given as an option as it is financially prohibitive – the railway station lifts would be much cheaper. We are now assured that the underground will re-open on 23 December.

The consultation is at: http://regisroadareaguidance.commonplace

  • There is also a public exhibition in Kentish Town Library, 252-266 Kentish Town Road, until Monday 23rd December 2024 (Monday to Thursday 10am to 7pm, Friday 10am to 5pm, Saturday 11am to 5pm). This will be a duplication of the information that is on Commonplace and will include paper copies of the electronic feedback form that is provided on Commonplace.  This exhibition will be unstaffed.
  • Officers will be available to talk to you at Kentish Town Library, on TSaturday 14th December 11am-2pm

Finally, as this will be our last newsletter before the Christmas break, we would like to wish everyone a happy holiday, and a healthy and peaceful new year.
