Dear Members

A few updates on issues we’ve been pursuing. Those of you on the WhatsApp group will already know some of this.

Door kicking/Antisocial behaviour

Sadly, reports of kids repeatedly kicking doors have been coming in again (or maybe they never stopped).  We’ve written to the police, and we were pleased to get this reply.  Please continue to report incidents, using the email address below.

Dear Inkerman

We have received reports of the youths kicking on doors and have taken action. I’m just sending an email to update you all regarding the situation.

All the children and their parents have been identified and spoken to regarding the situation. Some have been issued formal written warnings, others verbal.

Regardless it was made clear that this behaviour is not to continue and any escalation will be met with a proportionate police response.

We’d like to take the opportunity to thank our residents for reporting this behaviour and providing us with the evidence used to identify the suspects. Collaboration is vital, to combatting ASB.

Kind Regards

Road closures for work at entrances to Willes Road/Anglers Lane, and Ryland Road

A lot of people have expressed real concern about the work going on at the Willes Road/Prince of Wales Road junction. Questions include whether the work is needed at all, how long it is taking, the lack of timely information to residents and the failure to clearly show alternative routes. Notice of similar work due to take place on Ryland/Prince of Wales Road has raised similar questions.

We wrote to Cllr. Apak putting these points. He followed it up with officers, and this is his latest reply:

The key point is that the proposed works at Ryland Road are not a replacement of the crossing installed in 2020, but rather the completion of a section that was not upgraded at that time.

In particular, officers have advised that while the junction improvements along Prince of Wales Road were carried out in 2020, the entrance and exit to Hampstead Gate flats were left as a gap in the continuous pedestrian crossing and raised cycle track. The works due to begin from 7 April are intended to complete that missing section and improve pedestrian and cyclist movement along the route.

I also specifically raised the concern regarding cost in the current financial climate. Officers have confirmed that these works are being funded through external transport funding from TfL and the GLA as part of wider borough walking and cycling improvements, rather than from the Council’s general day-to-day service budget.

For transparency, the estimated costs provided are:

  • Anglers Lane phase: £37,400
  • Ryland Road phase: £43,400

I have also raised the concerns residents experienced during the current phase, particularly around signage and disruption, and asked that lessons be taken forward into the next stage.

The current phase is due to complete on 4 April, which should ease the immediate disruption before the Ryland phase begins.

I appreciate that residents remain concerned and I will continue to monitor how the next phase is managed.

Kind regards,
Meric

Street Trees.

Dilip and David have had a meeting with Camden’s tree planting officer, Riccardo Arnone, which two local councillors also attended.   It was very encouraging to hear his enthusiasm to be involved in discussing planting and maintenance issues and was receptive to the professional experience of Dilip.

He has already addressed specific issues like the tree pit outside 50 Willes Road where a tree stump is causing problems as it is very close to a power cable so stump grinding is not possible and the plan is to wait for a year for the roots to start to rot so it can be removed with manual equipment.

We are also in touch to coordinate the database of tress so we can try and link local members with newly planted trees so we can ensure they can be watered during the summer.

The WhatsApp Group(which is only open to people actually living in the Inkerman Area)continues to be extremely active with information and opinions about the huge local planning matters but also about local events and resources, and objects on  offer.

During the last few week there have been offers raging from Ikea rugs, posh envelopes, shiatsu neck and back massager with heat, large glass vase, phone holder, matzahs, fig tree rootlets, revision guides, oversized matches, planters, storage boxes, new king sized duvet, art books, travel guidebooks, magnetic noticeboard, jars for marmalade makers, climbing roses, kitchen bits and bobs, wireless keyboard and mouse, chest of drawers.

Let us know if you’d like to join the group.
